At birth, she was\n not in line to the throne, because until 1990, only males could inherit\n the Norwegian throne (Salic law). She was christened a few months after\n her birth. Her godparents are King Olav V of Norway, Princess \nMargaretha of Sweden, Count Flemming of Rosenborg, Princess Ragnhild of \nNorway, Dagny Haraldsen, Haakon Haraldsen, Nils J\u00f8rgen Astrup and Ilmi \nRiddervold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1973, M\u00e4rtha Louise was joined by a younger brother Haakon Magnus.\n In 1990 the Norwegian constitution was altered, granting full cognatic \nprimogeniture to the Norwegian throne, meaning that the eldest child, \nregardless of gender, takes precedence in the line of succession. This \nchange only affects those born in 1990 or later. Females born between \n1971 and 1990 (i.e. only M\u00e4rtha Louise), were given succession rights, \nbut their brothers would be before them in the line of succession, \nmeaning that Prince Haakon still took precedence over M\u00e4rtha Louise in \nthe line of succession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the births of her brother\u2019s two children, Ingrid Alexandra and \nSverre Magnus, M\u00e4rtha Louise was relegated to fourth in line.
