The first two parts of the written test are adjusted to the language level of the test taker on an ongoing basis. The number of proposed tasks depends on the correctness of the answers provided, i.e. the more correct answers, the more and more difficult exercises to solve. If the answers are correct, the number of questions to be done in the first part of the test also increases.

Using any additional “help” while taking the exam (such as the Internet, dictionary, telephone, notes, the person sitting next to them or their work, etc.) is unacceptable and severely punished (expulsion from the test, lack of certificate for any part of the exam, restricted from retaking it for a year and).

Norskprøve (both written and oral) can be taken at the following levels:

A1-A2, A2-B1, or B1-B2. The choice of the level will be decided during registration. Confirmation of passing the exam at the selected level is the issued certificate.

Level A1 is the equivalent of the former Norskprøve 1, level A2 – Norskprøve 2, level B1 – Norskprøve 3, and level B2 is the basis for admission to studies in Norway.

The Norskprøve exam is held all over Norway (in most municipalities). Anyone who wants to can take part in it, they can freely choose the place of taking the exam. However, many municipalities have a limited number of places so it is best to sign up for the exam early in the registration period.

You can register for both, i.e. the written and oral part of the exam, or only one of them. If you are taking the written exam for the first time, you must register for all three parts: reading, listening, and writing. If you have already taken it before (in the computer version), you can also choose all three parts of the test or only some of them.

If you register for the exam, you will receive a written notice at least two weeks prior to the scheduled date, stating where and when you can take the test.

There is usually a fee to take Norskprøve. Each test center decides what the price will be. Retaking the exam or its part is also payable. The costs of the exam vary from NOK 300 – NOK 2200, they are set by individual municipalities and are visible in the registration panel.

However, if you are entitled to learn Norwegian free of charge, you may also take the Norskprøve exam for free (once).

Norskprøve (after individual adjustment of the test) can be taken by people who are visually impaired and hard of hearing, with dyslexia and other problems that make it difficult to pass the exam according to the usual rules.
